Clairmont Farms Lavender

Recently, we traveled up to Los Olivos near Santa Barbara to attend a wedding. It reminded me of the Sonoma Valley - rich, fertile hills full of grape vineyards, olive trees and huge oak trees. We took the last day to explore downtown Los Olivos with it's olive oil tasting bars - fig balsamic is my favorite - and peach and blueberry stands.

Somebody in town mentioned that we might like the lavender farm so we drove over to take a look at Clairmont Lavender Farm. We drove up to 5 acres of lavender in full bloom. I could not get out of the car fast enough and my husband had that resigned look he gets when he knows we are going to be here for a while and leave with a lot of stuff "for work".
There are chickens in the driveway, a small gift shop and off to the side the thing that interested me most - a working copper still for distilling lavender oil. They cut and dry the lavender, sift and distill it using a low temperature that yields a beautiful Grosso Lavender oil that is reminiscent of a French lavender but with a bit of a kick. The price for their lavender oil was very, very reasonable and a little goes a long way. I add it neat to the bath and only a few drops does the trick. A bag of loose lavender with 10 small bags to fill and use as sachets was about $10 (unheard of) and very potent. They have absolutely wonderful lavender soap, dog shampoo, bath salts, etc, and my favorite culinary find Sea Salt with Lavender. We tried a saute of spinach in olive oil, garlic and the sea salt with lavender.

Clairmont Farms has a newsletter you can subscribe to on their website - . Definitely worth a look on the site or a visit if you are ever in the area.

Breast Cancer Awareness Post for Melange Solid Perfume Blending Palettes

This is a great beauty blog.  She just finished a really nice post on some wonderful items that support Breast Cancer Awareness this October, including a lovely post on Melange Blending Palette in pink label floral notes.  We are donating 20% from all proceeds of these palettes during October to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.  This amazing organization provides low and no-cost screening to the growing number of women who find themselves without health care.

Melange Perfume Blending Palettes - Think Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Every October we are reminded to Think Pink to promote Breast Cancer Awareness.  This year, Melange Perfume has partnered with the National Breast Cancer Foundation.  The NBCF is an amazing organization that promotes breast cancer prevention and awareness through low or no-cost screening and mammogram services and education.  My Grandmother died of breast cancer, which she may have been able to treat had she taken advantage of regular screening.

During October, Melange Perfume will donate 20% of all proceeds from the sale of our Solid Perfume Blending Palettes in our pink Floral Notes Palette on our website.  We will also donate from our wholesale orders to our many stores.  If you are interested in purchasing a Palette from a store near you, please check the locations page on our website.

Our Solid Perfume Blending Palette is a set of four finished fragrances in a natural base of beeswax and jojoba oil.  Each fragrance is designed to be worn alone, or can be blended with any or all others in the palette to create a unique custom fragrance -- custom blending at your fingertips!  Each floral notes palette contains the following four blends:  jasmine and neroli; japanese tea rose and sakura; casablanca lily and tuberose; frangipani and gardenia.

If you are due for a screening please use the month of October to make that all important appointment.  It just may save your life.
