Several years ago I had dinner with a editor from Women's Wear Daily. I had just opened my store Melange Apothecary and was busy custom blending in-store with my clients and observing their preferences.  To keep things moving in the store, I developed small solid perfumes in the most popular fragrance notes and placed them away from the fragrance bar.  They were an instant success -- but not for the reasons I thought.  People began to mix and match the solids, much the way they did the perfume notes at the fragrance bar.

She loved the solid perfumes.  When she asked me what I wanted to do next I casually replied "I am going to develop blending kits so people can mix and match the solid fragrances, they should be ready shortly".  Fast forward 3 years, countless blends and prototypes and a lot of watching and listening to what our customers and retailers liked most.

We are very excited about our Melange Perfume Blending Palettes. Each palette contains four finished fragrances that can be worn alone or blended with any or all of the other fragrances to create a unique custom blend.  Custom Blending at your fingertips... ! Each perfume is prepared in a blend of natural Beeswax and Jojoba Oil.  Each perfume is a blend of the most sought-after fragrance notes in custom blending.  Choose the following Palettes - Floral, Amber, Fruit, Citrus & Green.  We will post comprehensive information on each palette in the coming weeks, just in time for the transition from summer to fall and winter fragrances. Neroli Blossom & Orange

I admit it -- I love the fragrance of  Neroli Blossom.    Tonight is no exception.  I am sitting outside at a birthday party.  It is very warm & slightly breezy in Los Angeles, a typical summer night.  All at once, I begin to smell orange blossoms in bloom.  I look up and there are dozens of white blossoms overheard.  For where we live, it is  late in the season.  My host tells me that this orange tree is a late-blooming variety.  Now I am pulling the flowers off the trees and rolling them in my hands while I take in their fragrance -- my husband is pretending not to notice and the person next to me can not understand what the big deal is.  Once home, I went straight to my studio to work on a blend to wear tomorrow.    What struck me about the flowers tonight is how crisp and fresh they were - a very distinct citrus top note.  Here is what I came up with.

2 parts Pink Grapefruit & Jasmine
1 part Neroli Blossom & Orange
1 part White Tea & Ginger
1/4 part Bergamot (optional)

Melange Perfumes in Crush Cosmetics - Nantucket

I have been a huge fan of Crush Cosmetics since I first read about it several years ago.  It seemed to wonderful to have a beautiful little store on Nantucket that catered to the spring & summer crowds and then took the winter off.  This was definitely a dream-door for Melange and I was so happy the JC Beauty Girls landed this account for us.

They are doing very well with Melange and sent a photo of their display, which we adore.

Melange Perfume at the Atlanta Gift Show

This week Melange Perfume is exhibiting at the Atlanta Gift Show.  We sell to a lot of stores in the Southeast United States so it is great to meet the owners of the stores who carry our products.   The people here are so warm and friendly and they seem to navigate the heat and humidity without complaint!
Yesterday, I was returning to the hotel wearing a blend of Neroli Blossom & Orange, Melati Jasmine and Frangipani solid perfumes.  A very nice woman from Bermuda stopped me at Starbucks to ask what I was wearing (the humidity takes your fragrance to new heights!).  I explained what the solid perfumes were and left her my card and told her to read more on Melati Jasmine in the July issue of Real Simple Magazine.   This morning I noticed she ordered online!    Enjoy your summer day!
