 An unforgettable tropical floral melange - seductive Frangipani blended with our equally beautiful Tahitian Gardenia.  Imagine the possibilities of a flower so compelling it lures the Spinx Moth on moonlit evenings, together with a Gardenia flower adored for centuries and celebrated in the Polynesian wedding lei.

Alcohol free, each Melange Roll-On Perfume is formulated in a natural base of fractionated coconut oil, which allows our perfume to remain largely unchanged over time; and antioxidant Hawaiian Kukui Nut Oil. Our perfumes are hand-poured in our studio and inspired by the most sought-after notes in custom blending.

Each perfume blend is numbered in an archive format. Our perfumes are designed to be worn alone or blended with one another to create a custom fragrance blend - melange (french), to mix or blend.

A modern, inspired update for a vanilla-based perfume. Vanilla Orchid & opulent Amber are enlivened with the fragrance of fresh Ume Plum Blossoms.  A perfectly composed melange of warm and fruit notes that is wearable year-around.

Melange Solid Perfume Blending Palettes are featured in the Summer issue of Spa Magazine's Worldwide Travel issue.  I am a huge fan of this magazine because it highlights some of the worlds most beautiful spa's and the ways they use local plant and flower extracts and minerals in their treatments.

If you are like me and have been asked to hand-over a bottle of perfume at an airport checkpoint you understand why we love the blending palettes so much.  Small & lightweight, they breeze through a checkpoint and still deliver all the benefits of a suitcase full of fragrances. 

Our Green Notes palette (featured above) contains four solid perfumes:

- Green Tea & Honeysuckle

- Cut Grass & Paperwhite

- Cucumber, Sakura & White Tea

- Mimosa, Mint & Citron

Any of these blends is perfect worn alone.  Or, you can release your inner perfumer and blend Green Tea & Honeysuckle with Mimosa, Mint & Citron.  For evening, you could add a top note of Cut Grass & Paperwhite.  I love wearing Cucumber, Sakura & White Tea with Mimosa, Mint & Citron.  My current obsession is to blend Green Tea & Honeysuckle with Jasmine & Neroli from the Floral Notes palette.

This understated & light blend has captivated many people who previously would not wear perfume.  The fragrance of delicate Waterlily flowers is artfully interlaced with notes of Cucumber & Cut Grass.  An inspired balance of aqueous, floral & green notes.

Blending at the Melange Perfume Studio

 We are hard at work on new palettes.  Each palette needs to represent a fresh collection of four finished fragrances that also work well together.... that is the key.  It is not enough for each to smell wonderful.  They need to possess attributes that allow them to take on even more wonderful characteristics when they are worn together.  The seven finished fragrance discs above are the top contendors for one fragrance.  We started with about 35 variations! 

Please don't misunderstand.  I do not see this as a problem.  A wonderful challenge is more like it!   A few things about Melange Perfumes.

1.  We build our fragrances in-house.  What does that mean?  We do not order a bottle of fragrance from a lab and pour it in wax.  We formulate all of our blends here.  Note by note.  Bottle by bottle.  We think you are worth it.

2.  We hand-pour.  Machines never get it right.  I speak from experience. 

3.  We believe in small batches.  I dont want to wear a bottle of perfume that was poured 10 months ago and left on a shelf until I ordered it.   You shouldn't either. 

4.  We think the perfect fragrance for you is the one that makes you happy.  That is why we encourage you to use your own creativity and blend (melange!). 

5.  Perfume should be accessible.  What does that mean?  It shouldn't cost a fortune.

Spring at Last!

 It's official.  Spring is finally here. Even the relentless rain in California last week seemed tolerable;  after all, it's spring rain and that is a lot different than cold winter rain.  This is also the time fragrance lovers begin to shed the warm, rich fragrances that envelop us all winter in search of something lighter.  


One of my all time favorite fragrance notes is the Sakura (Cherry) Blossom . A beautiful floral note embellished with a distinct fruit element that is so wonderful. Best of all, it works effortlessly with so many types of fragrances.  Too soon to part with your Tobacco Leaf  perfume you fell in love with this winter?  Add a touch of Sakura Blossom and it will feel perfect for spring.  Prefer citrus fragrances?  Try Sakura Blossom with Pomegranate and Grapefruit, available in our Solid Perfume singles or in our Fruit Notes Palette No. 1.  I love to blend Sakura Blossom with White Tea and Ginger, ala our Green Notes Palette No. 1 or our new Roll-On Perfume Blend No. 4.  Floral fragrance aficionado?  Blend Sakura Blossom with the Honeysuckle and Sugandaraja Tuberose Solid Perfumes (I have been stopped while wearing this one!)
